ITALIAN SEASONING FAQS

What’s a good substitute for Italian seasoning?

I think this homemade Italian seasoning recipe is a great substitute, but if you don’t have all the herbs listed, just make a blend using what you do have. Oregano and basil are the main flavors of Italian seasoning, so if you have those two dried spices, you’ll be set.

What spices are in Italian seasoning from McCormick?

McCormick calls for the same herbs as this homemade Italian seasoning, but they also add savory. I personally never have savory on hand, so I made up this blend without it.

Does Italian seasoning have fennel?

No, and while some Italian seasoning blends also contain garlic, onion, red pepper flakes, and salt, mine doesn’t contain any of those. If you like those flavors, certainly add them to your mix!

Is Italian seasoning gluten-free?

Yes! There’s no gluten in these herbs, and no fillers added to this recipe.
