HEALTHY FRUIT PIZZA RECIPE
I used to think that fruit pizza – or dessert pizza as some call it – was only good to make in the summer (when berries were in season).
But that’s not true! Fruit pizza is one of our favorite desserts to make all year round because:.
- It’s really, really easy.
- The kids LOVE to help decorate…
- And they LOVE to eat it even more!
- It’s pretty enough for company.
- It tastes just as good the next day.
- I love how healthy it is!
Really truly, the kids asked me if I could make this again as soon as they had their first bite. They really love fruit pizza!
INGREDIENTS AND TOPPINGS FOR SUGAR COOKIE FRUIT PIZZA
You only need four basic ingredients to make sugar cookie fruit pizza:
- One batch of my Healthy Sugar Cookies. I’ve reduced the sugar so they’re just sweet enough, but not overly sugary!
- Cream cheese + honey. This is the “sauce” for our pizza, which is lightly sweetened and perfectly tangy.
- Fresh seasonal fruit. SEASONAL is the keyword here. Whether it’s spring, summer, or winter, there’s always fresh fruit perfect for fruit pizza. Plus, buying in-season fruit saves us money too!
SEASONAL FRUITS PIZZA
The fruit you put on fruits pizza depends heavily on the season. The more variety you choose the more colorful fruit pizza you end up with! And the more flavor!
In spring and summer, choose fruits like:
- Apricots
- Bananas
- Blackberries
- Blueberries
- Cherries
- Mango
- Peaches
- Plums
- Raspberries
- Strawberries
In fall and winter, try these fruits:
- Apples
- Bananas
- Cranberries
- Grapes
- Kiwi
- Mandarin oranges
- Pineapple
HOW TO MAKE FRUIT PIZZA
Making a healthy fruits pizza is as simple as baking the crust, making the sauce, and topping it with fresh fruit!
Step 1. Prepare the cookie dough crust. Preheat the oven to 350F. Prepare the Healthy Sugar Cookie dough. Press the dough into a 9×12 sheet pan or 12-inch pizza pan. Bake for 10-13 minutes, until the cookie is light golden brown. Let it cool completely.
Step 2. Mix up the cream cheese frosting. Combine the cream cheese and honey in the bowl of a stand mixer and beat cream cheese mixture until it is smooth and creamy. Spread it evenly over the cooled crust.
Step 3. Top the pizza. Layer the fruit over the cream cheese. Decorate however you wish, with whatever fruit you have!
Step 4. Slice and enjoy!
MAKE AHEAD FRUIT COOKIE PIZZA
There are two main ways you can make this easy fruit pizza recipe a day ahead of time:
- Prepare the cookie dough, but don’t bake it. Just put it in the freezer or fridge, unbaked. The next day, press the dough into the cookie sheet and bake.
- Prepare the ingredients separately. Bake the crust, mix the icing, and prepare the fruit, but don’t actually assemble the pizza.
Fruits pizza is best when eaten the day it’s assembled, so if you’re hosting company, I recommend assembling it an hour or so before they arrive.
However, my family and I enjoyed this fruit cookie pizza the next day too! Cover and store leftovers in the refrigerator.
HOW TO MAKE FRUIT PIZZA COOKIES
Want to make healthy mini fruit pizzas? If you want to make individual soft sugar cookie bases instead of one big pizza, follow the instructions in the Healthy Sugar Cookies Recipe to cut and bake the cookies – I suggest using your largest circle cookie cutter for this one. Let them cool completely before icing and decorating!
FRUIT PIZZA RECIPE EASY FAQS
What is the best fruit pizza crust?
This fruit pizza recipe uses lightly sweetened sugar cookie dough for the crust. It’s just sweet enough to complement the cream cheese frosting and the fresh fruit.
What do you use for fruit pizza recipe easy frosting?
Make an easy frosting for fruit pizza using cream cheese and honey!
What is the best design for fruit pizza?
I’ve seen a mixture of strawberries and blueberries to look like a flag for the Fourth of July. I’ve seen a fruits pizza divided into 4 sections, with different fruits in each quarter. I tend to make thinner rows of different fruits – I think the fruit “stripes” look nice and keeping them small means each slice ends up with multiple fruits.
Can you make fruit pizza gluten free?
Yes! You’ll need to use a gluten-free sugar cookie recipe for the base. My recipe does not convert really well, but I’m SURE there’s a good one out there! Then top with cream cheese and fruit as described in this recipe.
